LET'S BEGIN WITH WATER

What could be more basic to "life" than H20?  Did you know that 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated and do not realize it?  This is perhaps the number one cause of poor health.  Real Health Reform begins with Water.

"NOTHING supports the body’s cleansing and elimination capacity like Water; the most ancient and potent natural detox aid ever known to mankind."  Whether by drinking it, sweating, bathing in it, or even showering your vegetable garden with it, water has been used to expel toxins, and to restore and promote health since the dawn of humanity.

The human body is composed of more than 75% of water and some body tissue consists of over 95% of water!  With insufficient hydration, cells draw water from the bloodstream, pressurizing and burdening the heart.  That is why it is so important that we become more aware of what our bodies need.

It's vitally important that the water we consume for the proper functioning of our bodies is of the highest quality.  A sufficient supply of good water will have a noticeable effect on our wellness and appearance, and slow down our aging process.

Why is it that in our frantic search for the ultimate detox, we’ve overlooked the ideal and most obvious detox aid?  A free, natural resource we’re in physical contact with every single day of our life: WATER.

From the Beginning we were graced with most of what we require for a healthy and abundant life, WATER.  It is our essence - the fundamental element within us.
Wake Up People is about more than just taking back control of our own health care.  It's about getting in touch with our essence identity and discovering what empowers YOU!

Did you know that your consciousness impacts water AND your health?

WHY "WAKE UP PEOPLE"?

As an mom who writes out the monthly check for health insurance, and MBA specializing in health insurance and other group benefits, I have become increasingly concerned about the skyrocketing expense of health care, and the additional taxes and fees being imposed with reform measures.

Significant cost cutting can be achieved through wellness initiatives - stress reduction, regular exercise, and mindful consumption.

Furthermore, studies have shown that healthy employees are happier, healthy students enjoy school.  Healthy people have more energy, are more engaged, more creative, and more productive.  This translates into business growth and profitability, as well as academic success.

Wake Up People is about nutrition's critical role in bringing your mental, physical, and emotional selves back into balance.  Fresh food, fresh air, and fresh water for mind, heart and spirit!  It's all about going back to basic living.

Health is the first wealth.

STORY of THE MONTH Genesis Revisted

Did you know that local food, bought fresh, or home grown is more nutritious and better tasting than imported food?  And not only is local food better for our health, it is also better for the health of our planet.

Have you ever considered the energy spent to bring in apples from, say, the state of Washington?  There's the transportation to a processing facility, where the apples get waxed, and then the transportation a distributor on the east coast before delivery to the consumer via the supermarket.  This requires fuel as well as wear and tear on trucks.  Local growers are also your best bet for quality affordable organic produce.

One of Rhode Island's greatest resources is her rich soil, and vibrant small farm community.  There are many opportunities for buying local - farmers markets, pick-your-own farms, farm stands to name a few, and grocery markets that love to feature regional produce.  Check out the following resources for Rhode Island or google "farmer's markets" in your state:

http://www.farmfresh.org/ - This is an online local food guide for Rhode Island which lists 40+ farmer markets, pick-your-own orchards, and farm stands.  They also send out a valuable weekly e-newsletter. Our local farmers are gifted growers, and they will truly appreciate your commerce.

FALL GARDENING courses at URI.

This year my family has gone organic, and we're learning about home gardening.  My daughter is so proud of her melons.  We began by ordering a variety of seeds from
Heirloom Seeds.  The seeds of heirloom varieties can be harvested to grow new plants next year; you can not do this with hybrid seeds.  We also purchased some heirloom tomato plants from Robin Hollow farm in North Kingstown.  Our project began with the task of soil preparation.  If you'd like to see how we prepped our soil, click here.

If you have a tiny yard, google "square foot gardening" to maximize your garden's yield.  If you don't have a yard, try
Garden in a Bucket
, container gardening that's easy, compact and portable. The vegetables are chosen for their high vitamin and nutritional content - only $49.95.
